Server Re-Location - Overview

Time Line for Option 1 - Physical Move :
Overview
Overview:
Due to spiralling power and datacentre space costs in London, we are planning on
moving your server from our older datacentres to our new datacentre, The
Dataport, in the next number of weeks.
The benefits this brings to you are:-
- Better Support - being wholly owned by Netcetera, The Dataport
will have our directly employed staff on site 24/7, giving you quicker fix
times.
- More Secure - The Dataport is located in a secure location, with
a low to non-existent bomb and terrorist threat .
- Physical space availability at stable prices - we have over
16,000 sq foot of space, allowing you to grow as you need.
- Power supply is guaranteed and not limited - it is becoming
difficult now to supply power in London Docklands, and it is due to get more
difficult over the period running up to the Olympic games in 2012 .
- Greener - The Dataport uses the latest, most efficient
technologies available for datacentres, thus keeping power bills down, and
ensuring that the environmental impact is as small as possible
- Stable Pricing - the price you pay will not increase, whilst you
receive the benefits of our new data centre.
What options do you have?
- We will physically move your server from the old datacentre to The
Dataport
- We could set you up with a new server, with the latest server technology
and Microsoft Windows 2008, allowing you to migrate across to it over the
period of one month. We will not charge you for the new server during this
one month period.
- We can host a limited number of servers in our London datacentres.
What are the drawbacks?
- Option 1 - Physical move
There will be downtime whilst we disconnect, transport and reconnect your
server. Up to 16 hours is envisaged, to be done over a weekend by a
professional IT relocation company. You will need to ensure you have
adequate and up to date backups of your configuration and data, which we can
advise and assist you with. No IP Address changes are required.
- Option 2 - New Server
Will your existing software work with new hardware and Windows 2008? You
will need to check if you have any restrictions. IP address changes will be
required.
- Option 3 - Stay in London
Even though your server(s) may stay in London there will still be a physical
move and thus some downtime. You will need to ensure you have adequate and
up to date backups of your configuration and data. IP address changes will
be required. Due to spiralling power and space costs in London, your hosting
costs will increase.
Timescales:
The move needs to be completed by 1st August 2008, with most equipment being
moved over the weekend of 26th/27th July 2008. Therefore we need to know your
preferred option by 27th June 2008.
